Christmas of 2007..
This year we will start off the season on Dec 1 with a Christmas party at 6
pm. Christmas carols will be sung and Santa will be delivered on a fire
truck, courtesy of the Claremont Fire Department to start the show. There
will be Wassail and ginger bread cookies. Hope to see you here. A map is
provided on this website.
This year we needed to make some changes while the city made its
decision whether or not to permit outside music. I agreed to not play
music through the outdoor speakers until the City officials gave me the go
ahead, but only played music on the radio to help control the traffic.
Carol and I attended a Planet Christmas conference in Tennessee this
summer and heard many great ideas for decorations, lights and music.
We have incorporated some of them into this year’s show.
One of Carol’s ideas was to make the display more environmentally
friendly by adding some arches over the walkway to our house utilizing the
new LED lights. There are 6 arches crafted out of PVC pipe with each arch
having 16 different sections. This way, the lights can chase back and forth
or up and down. We selected the colors blue and red for the arch, and
white for connecting strands between each arch. There are 800 lights of
each color (red and blue) on each arch (1600 lights per arch) or a total of
9,600 lights. In addition, the are 1,200 white lights connecting the arches
to add a different effect to the show. This means, the arches alone added
10,800 lights to the display. We also changed the star on the top of the
tree from 50 lights to 300 and made it to have movement.
As Disney fans, we also wanted to have a symbolic tribute to the “Happiest
Place on Earth. “ So, we added shooting stars and strobes in the tree to
represent Tinkerbell. This added another 1,050 lights from the stars and
30 strobes.
Our show increased a total of 12,550 lights this year.
The light show added 3 new songs: Trans Siberian Orchestra’s
Christmas Eve in Sarajevo, Disney’s theme from the attraction Soarin’
over California, and Zaranthustra’s theme from the movie 2001: A Space
Odyssey.
