Christmas of 2006..

Well, I wanted to do something big again. So this is it. My goal for this year
in 2006 is 38,000 lights. After visiting the Osborne Festival of Lights at Walt
Disney World, and seeing several homes via the Internet with Christmas
light displays coordinated with music I decided to do the same. For my
next Christmas light display, I have programmed two songs to go off with
my lights. I will have the music transmitted over an FM frequency so
people in their cars can listen on their car radios as they drive by. The
music is set to go off every ½ hour to a different song. With 144 channels
all run by a single computer this is my biggest year of lights yet.   The light
show will start during the week at 7 pm and go off at 10 pm, and on the
weekends on at 6:30 and off at 10 pm. We will be on at 5pm on Christmas
Eve and off at 11 pm. See the map to get to our house.

Since my home is on a corner lot I have divided the lights and decorations
into two sections.   The north side is my nativity scene and the west side is
the North Pole. I hope people see the real meaning and know that Jesus
is the reason of the season, and that they will enjoy the lighter, fun side of
Christmas as well.

I have been told I am obsessed over Christmas lights. I think “passionate”
is a better word.  I love to see and hear how my Christmas displays affect
other people. I love the fact that it puts smiles on kid’s faces and makes
them laugh. I started the programming my newest display in January of
this year for the two songs. Since this is my first year to do this it took over
3 months on each song to make it look like what I wanted. I decided not to
run extension cords all over the yard, but instead to put the conduit and
plugs in the ground so they can’t be seen. Did I think this out? NO! But
then, no pain, no gain. So every weekend was spent laying wire and
setting up plugs. And did it come out perfect? NO. Many changes had to be
made to make this work. But this is worth it and now you see what I have
done.

This year the lights will be turned on Dec 2 at 6pm with a party. I have my
church choir coming over to sing when the lights on the Nativity scene are
turned on, and a hopefully a surprise visit from Santa when the lights on
the north pole side are turned on. There will be apple cider and cookies for
everybody who can come!
